Alexander Darmonski: Software Engineer bij Krohne Altometer

Alexander Darmonski

My wife and I wanted to live in Western Europe and the Netherlands was at the top of our list. In 2015 we decided that it is a good time to start acting on our desire.

Initially, I thought it will be hard for me to find a job without speaking Dutch. But it turned out there is a plenty of English speaking companies. Next to that the demand for Software engineers in the Netherlands is quite high.

I polished and updated my CV and I started looking for job opportunities. Soon it became obvious that it will take me an enormous amount of time to scan regularly through numerous job listing websites. I changed my strategy, I decided to focus on finding some good employment agencies. They actively look for job seekers and they have close contact with the employers.

I found out about Xelvin through a search engine. I applied for one of the vacancies published on their website. One of the managing consultants Manuel Teunissen replied with an invitation for a Skype interview. We had a nice talk. He was very helpful in answering all my questions and explaining the Xelvin way of working. In the next days, Manuel followed up with proposing few positions and asking me to redo my CV in a Xelvin form.

About two months and few Skype interviews later I landed in the Netherlands for a face-to-face interview. My wife also joined me on the trip and Xelvin graciously covered the travel costs. Manuel provided great support on site. He made sure that I'm well prepared for the interview and gave me a ride to the company. In the meantime, he set up a meeting for my wife with two expat ladies to talk about their experience as foreigners in the Netherlands.

The interview went well and the company made me an offer. After discussing with my wife I took the position.

Xelvin has a lot of experience with recruiting internationals. They supported me by negotiating the contract terms even before my face to face interview. Xelvin organized and paid for the whole trip and they were very thoughtful. Manuel had answers for all my questions and he got me into contact with a Serbian guy recently relocated to the Netherlands with his family.

Xelvin got me into contact with housing agencies so I can start looking for an accommodation beforehand. They also organized social security number and bank account for me on the first day of my arrival which saves you a lot of effort and stress.
